Mini monotipos

Viéndolos nuevamente no me gustaron nada!

Around the World Blog Hop

I was invited to participate in the "Around the World Blog Hop", that's making the rounds of artistic blogs across the world. Everyone has been asked to answer four questions or variations on them, so we can learn a little more about our art process.

Dutch artist Eric Adama invited me last week. We met on the internet because we both love working with type and text (check his post for the blog hop).

We've been doing an exchange project about the alphabet that I hope is going to be ready at the beggining of 2015. Of course I will show it here when it's ready!

This is an example of some of his work (this one is hanging on my wall! :)

What am I working on?
I'm finally finishing my series of etchings called "Conversation" about type. Series "Conversation" explores the spiritual meaning of letters.
To me, letters enhance the idea of "saying something", communication on a subtle level. We can experience a visual reading and conversation.
I've been working on it from a long time now, it is a large collection of etchings that I feel is coming to an end. I'm working on 2 big plates now that are taking a long time to be ready as it is very complicated to handle them. I haven't print the proofs yet, I'm still etching and deciding about next step to follow.

How does my work differ from others in its genre?
I think it could be because of the use of blank space. I love to use that space as part of the compositions to enhance every element on it and also to create a straking contrast between them.

Why do I write/create what I do?
I think my inclination to focus on composition and text comes for my graphic design background; somehow because of this i got trapped in the idea "less is more".

Speaking of printmaking, I think it is alchemy: a long experimental process where all the elements and materials have to fit together on a perfect moment in order to transmute into something powerful and precious. I love the magic on it.

How does my writing/creating process work?
I never have a specific idea in mind when begin a work. Sometimes I can start with a piece of paper that I like in order to do a sketch for a print and this sketch turns into a work-collage itself, sometimes an interesting font or a background that I have created experimenting with colours, paints and textures. Sometimes it’s chance that generates an interesting composition while I’m doing something else and then I start a new work. Actually, my job is very intuitive but speaking about composition, I try to keep it simple, I try to keep the work in "silence".

The artist I would like to see in this Blog Hop is Cathy Cullis,
an artist and poet-writer living in England.

I started to follow Cathy Cullis on flickr a long time ago. I was amazed by her magic and neat work: it seems to me that with only a couple of brush strokes she creates an entire story and inner feelings.
I love all of her work.
